Chi Kung

Chi Kung is practice that nurtures & develops Chi.

I teach various Chi Kung programs during the year. A weekly general practice class, easy to join, simple & effective exercises to nurture overall well being & mobility. And some specific Chi Kung's mainly on the weekends, e.g... Swimming Dragon Chi Kung (starts Jan 24 2010) & The Eight Silken Brocades Chi Kung (scheduled to start in May 2010). See details below.

Chi Kung is often practiced in groups, sometimes with a view to the group developing a ‘Chi field’. This Chi field is fuelled by the whole group & is beneficial to all participating. Each player thus creates & receives the benefit.

Chi Kung generally develops a person’s Chi, mindfulness, concentration, balance & power.

The forms are designed to promote free & appropriate passage of Chi, working through blockages & balancing the flow.
These forms can vary from one simple static position, to a 20 minute sequence of complex movements.

There are a several types of Chi Kung practices; medical, health, spiritual, martial. There are also a great many systems, probably a thousand Chi Kung ‘forms’. Some Chi Kung practices require a great deal of theoretical knowledge.

Weekly General Chi Kung Class:
(Tuesday nights)
general Chi Kung session with a selection of simple & stimulating Chi Kung exercises and some standing practiced as a group. This class will be open & beneficial to beginners as well as the experienced.

Standing (or Celestial) Post: Zhang Zhuan
Tuesday nights & part of all Chi Kung classes)
This is really the core of Chi Kung &, in no small way, Tai Chi. It takes many forms but always looks like standing still ! Never has the outside revealed so little of the internal process.

Swimming Dragon Chi Kung:
(Starts Jan 24 2010 - 3 sessions)
This is quite an unusual exercise involving lateral flexing of your spine. I love this practice as this kind of movement is not very present in many other forms. It is reputed to stimulate weight loss - but for me it just reaches places that most other forms don't !

Eight Silken Brocades Chi Kung:
(Starts May 23 2010 - 8 sessions)
This is an old & famous routine. It has been taken up by many martial & chi kung traditions which is perhaps testimony to its worthiness. Though it can be matched to any level it is perhaps a little more 'physical' than the White Crane system & can provide quite a work out.

White Crane Chi Kung:
(Ends Dec 2009 - 6 sessions)
This practice is a fantastic general work out involving all round exercise, stretching & balancing. I have found it to be a great starter to the day, or as a preparation to my Tai Chi practice. It can be as gentle as you want & you can very easily tailor it to your needs & ability.
